The Iran protests started in December of 2017. Iranian citizens protested economic policies of Iran, as well
as the theocratic leadership of Iran. The protests became violent and more than 20 civilians were killed.
More than one thousand were arrested. The initial cause of the protests was a sudden spike in the cost of
food. However, other factors may include government corruption, economic hardship, and religious
authoritarianism. In response to the protests, internet access was shut down in parts of the country.
Let’s hope that peaceful protests will lead to better economic situations, honest and transparent
government, and a fair, democratic leader.
