This rendition of ‘Jerusalem of Gold’ will skip your heart and go straight to your soul

What an amazing duo! They are incredibly talented. The song “Jerusalem of Gold” was written by Naomi

Shemer in 1967 while Jerusalem was occupied by Jordanian forces. At the time, Jews were banned from

Jerusalem, despite having lived there for thousands of years. Many holy sites in Jerusalem, including the

Western Wall, were desecrated or damaged while under Jordanian occupation.

Then the Six Day War broke out, and Israel liberated Jerusalem, finally allowing Jews to return home! It

was truly a joyous occasion. As a result of that, a final verse was added to reflect the miraculous victory.

The song “Jerusalem of Gold” has four stanzas, and is so popular that it became an informal Israeli

national anthem.
